Modern movie theaters give you wide screen viewing and surround sound that makes the show exciting. You can feel the bass, hear the jet or train go behind you, see almost as wide as your peripheral vision. You can give this to yourself at home with a custom theater.

At the top you can have your own  custom home theater with appointments that beat the commercial theater. Big soft leather seats. Wide screens. Great speakers. Crisp vivid pictures. Plus you can watch what you want when you want. Have a nice meal, wine, beer. Or what about wide screen sports? Or wide screen computer gaming? You can have it all and not have to drive to a theater and listen to chatter from strangers two rows behind you.

What kinds of options do you have?:

  1. A dedicated home theater:
    1. A room with a custom seating based on the screen.
    2. Lighting and interior design based on a theater theme, a custom theme, or a special look.
    3. Built-in speakers.
    4. Room insulation to keep out sounds from the rest of the house or and to keep the sounds of the room disturbing others.
    5. Perhaps a built-in food counter, popcorn maker, wine and beer coolers?
    6. Universal remote controls for lighting, theater electronics, music.

  2. An enhanced home entertainment center:
This is a room that may be more multifunctional but whose main mission is to be the center for home activities. It is more than a wide screen TV and some speakers because it is designed to increase the theater experience. At the same time, the room my be used for other things like parties and family activities. Among things we have in mind are:
    1. A projection screen or wide screen LCD/Plasma display located so that people can comfortably enjoy movies, sports, or music presentations.
    2. The speaker system is designed to provide good quality sound. In most cases this would be a room that has little or no traffic, few windows, and suitable dimensions.
    3. Seating that enhances the wide-screen/surround sound experience. Part of the design relates to acoustics. Part of the design relates to viewing comfort.

  3. An entertainment center using an existing space:
If you have a home with a decent living room, family room, great room, or bonus room, you can retrofit a home theater into the space. A home theater might include things like:
    1. A static or electronic screen with a front projection system.
    2. Wide screen LCD/Plasma screen. It could be built into the wall or even hidden by a picture when it is not being used.
    3. In-wall wiring for speakers designed for the room environment.
    4. If you are remodeling the room, you can also consider equipment enclosures, furniture, wall treatments, sconces, additional lighting, etc.
