DVD or VCR is good, but a full surround-sound experience and a wide screen
TV makes it Great! Hear the action behind, beside, and around you. Watch a
wide screen movie on a wide screen system rather than the boxy TV picture. |

| Question: What is "surround
sound" or home theater? Answer: There are three major surround
sound standards: 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1; these basically vary by the number of
speakers.
5.1 means there are 5 speakers and 1 subwoofer (a speaker for very low
sounds): 3 speakers up front (left, center, and right), 2 surround speakers
on the sides of the rooms, and a subwoofer.
6.1 means that there are 6 speakers and 1 subwoofer: 3 speakers up front
(left, center, and right), 2 surround speakers on the left and right walls,
and 1 rear speaker along with the 1 subwoofer.
7.1 means that there are 7 speakers and 1 subwoofer: 3 speakers up front
(left, center, and right), 2 surround speakers on the left and right walls,
2 rear speakers, and the subwoofer. |

| Question: If I want to get a
surround sound system, do I have to get the wiring installed before the
walls are completed? Answer: It is preferable to preinstall the
wiring for a home entertainment center/ home theater before the walls are
completed, but it is also possible to retrofit a system into the home. In
either case, pre-planning is important. The earlier we can get involved in
the design and installation planning the better. |
|
| Question: What is the
difference between a surround sound home entertainment center and a home
theater? Answer: A surround sound home entertainment center includes the
electronics, speakers, wiring, and related hardware in an existing room
design. A home theater is generally considered to be a designated room for
viewing movies, although the room can be used for gaming, watching sports,
or TV as well. A home theater includes big comfortable seating, interior
room design, extra attention to acoustics, and typically more or higher
grades of electronics. Home theaters almost always have large screens rather
than a TV display. |
