Current new Intel technology includes:
  •  BTX Systems: The technical successor to the ATX motherboard design. Click the BTX link to learn more about this technology.
  •  Hyperthreading Technology: Enables faster multithreadying processing for multiple applications and sessions.
  •  EIST: Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology (EIST) helps to lower power consumption and overall system acoustics in desktop platforms.
  •  XD: Execute Disable (XD) works with XP SP2 to help protect against a class of viruses and worms to help prevent buffer overflow errors.
  •  DDR2 Memory: typically 9% lower power consumption, improved speed.

In addition, Intel's newest 9xx Chipset family mother boards provide performance improvements including:

  •  Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 (3rd generation engine)
  •  PCI Express x16 (new interface for ’04, higher bandwidth than legacy AGP interfaces, brings new levels of discrete graphics performance to the desktop, including crisper images and improved gaming).
  •  Intel High Definition Audio.
  •  Easy connection to other devices using 8 USB connections.
  •  800 MHz and 1600 MHz Frontside Buss (FSB).
  •  Dual Channel DDR/DDR2-533 memory architecture.
  •  4 Serial ATA ports for latest optical devices.
  •  ICH 6R will provide Matrix Storage Technology to take advantage of RAID1 and RAID0 with only two drives.
